ANZAC Day 2015

Dedication of Colo Vale War Memorial ~ Saturday, 18thApril

As we are well aware, this year is the centenary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli.

Our local Colo Vale community, led by Mr John Stead, has worked so hard to build a new War Memorial in front of the Memorial Hall to coincide with this 100-year celebration.

Last Saturday, eight of our SRC councillors and deputies gave up part of their holidays to represent our school and to take part in this important civic event.

Cooper Sharp, Elise Balla, Jasper Murphy and Ryan Easter read out the names of all 56 people who have been identified from this community as having served in either WW I, WW II or the Vietnam War.

Hailli Naranjo, Brianna Sawtell, Nathan Hansen and Sebastian Hernandez placed a wreath of flowers and greenery from our school gardens at the base of the new Memorial.

Harry Bell, as a member of the Air League, and resplendent in his uniform, took part in laying a wreath and saluting in respect.

Maya Bos-Woods was part of the RSL Rural Commemorative Youth Choir which sang an inspiring song entitled "Young and Free".

An ex-student, Brendan Willard, recited the Ode and his father, Mark Willard, led a flypast involving three "Russian Roolettes".

So as you can see, it was a beautifully organised, thoughtful and moving ceremony, and we were SO proud of our students taking such a significant role in this important community event.
